Off-page SEO covers the signals that come from outside your own website. Within our Internet Marketing Service work, it builds the credibility that helps good pages compete.
What is Off-Page SEO & Link Building?
Off-Page SEO & Link Building is the work of earning mentions and links to your website from other websites. A backlink from a relevant, trusted site acts like a reference, and search engines also follow those links to discover your pages.
Google describes prominence as one of the main factors in local search ranking, and says it draws on information from across the web, including links and articles. Off-page work is how a business builds that prominence over time.
What counts as a good backlink?
A good backlink comes from a real site that is relevant to your business or your area, and that someone would actually read. One link from a respected local organisation can be worth more than dozens from unrelated directories.
| Signal | Stronger link | Weaker or risky link |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | A BC home builders’ resource linking to a Surrey roofing company | A gambling blog linking to a dental clinic |
| Placement | A link inside the main content of an article | A footer link repeated across hundreds of pages |
| Audience | A site with real local readers or industry visitors | A site built only to sell links |
| Anchor text | Natural wording, such as your business name or a description | The same exact keyword repeated across many sites |
| How it was earned | Partnership, coverage, sponsorship or useful content | Bought links or large link exchanges |
Google’s spam policies treat buying or selling links that pass ranking credit, and excessive link exchanges, as link spam. We do not buy links or use private blog networks. Sponsored or paid placements should carry rel=”sponsored” or rel=”nofollow”.
Which off-page SEO tactics do we use for local businesses?
- Unlinked brand mentions: finding sites that already name your business and asking them to add a link
- Local partnerships: suppliers, trade associations, business improvement associations and chambers of commerce you belong to
- Community involvement: sponsorships, events and charity work that local organisations already write about
- Linkable resources: genuinely useful guides, checklists or local data that others want to reference
- Digital PR: pitching expert comment or story ideas to local and industry publications
- Broken link replacement: suggesting your relevant page when a site links to a page that no longer exists
- Lost link recovery: redirecting old URLs that still have backlinks pointing at them
Business directory listings are another off-page signal. Consistent name, address and phone details across directories are handled in our Local Citation Building service, which pairs naturally with link building.
How does the link building process work?
- 1
Free analysis
We review your current backlink profile, the sites linking to competitors in your area and whether authority is really the gap holding you back.
- 2
Backlink profile review
We look for lost links, redirects that need fixing and patterns that could look manipulative.
- 3
Opportunity list
We build a list of relevant local and industry sites, plus relationships you already have that could lead to a link.
- 4
Assets and outreach
We prepare the content worth linking to and send personal, honest outreach on your behalf, with your approval.
- 5
Track and report
We record links earned, check they stay live and watch referral traffic in GA4 and links in Search Console.
Links help most when they point to pages that deserve them. That is why we often pair outreach with On-Page SEO Optimization so the destination pages are clear and convincing.
How do brand mentions affect AI search?
AI tools such as ChatGPT search, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews read pages across the web when they answer questions. When reputable sites describe your business consistently, those tools have more independent sources to draw on.
This is why off-page work overlaps with Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), which focuses on how your brand is described across the web for AI-generated answers. Both rely on real, accurate references rather than volume.
Link building in Surrey, the Lower Mainland and across Canada
Local links are often closest to home. A Fleetwood restaurant, a Newton trucking company and a South Surrey realtor each have different community groups, suppliers and local publications that make sense for them. Working from our Hyland Square office on 152 Street, we look for links that reflect where your customers actually are.
We also run outreach for businesses in Langley, Burnaby, Vancouver and Maple Ridge, and for clients across Canada who work with us remotely. For national or ecommerce businesses, the focus shifts toward industry publications and resources. Request a free analysis to see how your backlinks compare. Off-page work is one part of our Search Engine Optimization (SEO) service.
During my entire career, I have hired and tried many different Marketing Agencies but had best experience working with Tejas and his Team. They made the whole process really simple for me, which allowed me to focus more on my day-to-day activities. They helped generate and convert lots of online leads into conversions – using their system alone is worth hiring them! I can't recommend them enough.
Mathan MarkanduVivid Marketing clientFrequently asked questions
Do you buy backlinks?
No. Buying links that pass ranking credit goes against Google’s spam policies and can lead to those links being ignored or to manual action against your site. We earn links through outreach, partnerships, local involvement and content that is worth referencing. If you pay for a sponsorship or advertorial, the link should be marked as sponsored.
How many backlinks will I get each month?
We do not promise a set number of links. Earned links depend on the opportunities in your industry, the relationships you already have and how other site owners respond to outreach. A few relevant local links usually do more than a large number of weak ones. We report every link we earn so you can see the work.
How much does Off-Page SEO & Link Building cost?
Cost depends on how competitive your market is, how much content needs to be created to earn links, and the amount of outreach involved. A local trades business and a national online store need very different effort. Request a free analysis and we will explain the options and scope before quoting.
What is the difference between link building and citation building?
Link building earns links from articles, resources and partner sites to build authority. Citation building lists your business name, address and phone number consistently on directories and data sources. Citations support local trust and accuracy, while editorial links usually carry more weight for authority. Many local businesses benefit from both.
What do you need from me?
Tell us about the associations you belong to, suppliers and partners you work with, events or charities you support, and any media coverage you have had. These real relationships are often the easiest places to earn relevant links. We also need you to approve outreach messages sent on your behalf.
Should I disavow bad links pointing at my site?
Usually not. Google says it ignores most low-quality links on its own, and the disavow tool is meant for cases where you have a manual action or know there were paid or manipulative links in the past. Using it wrongly can remove links that help. We review your profile and recommend disavowing only when it is clearly justified.
