Shopping ads show a product photo, title, price and store name right in Google results, so shoppers can compare before they click. This service is part of our Advertising Agency services in Surrey and is built for businesses that sell products, not services.
How do Google Shopping Ads work?
Google Shopping Ads do not use keywords the way search ads do. Instead, Google reads your product data from Google Merchant Center and matches each product to relevant searches. That means the quality of your product feed decides when, where and how often your products appear.
- Your store sends product data to Google Merchant Center through a feed, a spreadsheet or a platform integration.
- Merchant Center reviews the products against Google’s policies and data rules.
- Your Google Ads account links to Merchant Center and runs Shopping or Performance Max campaigns.
- Google shows your products for searches it judges relevant, and you pay when someone clicks.
What is included in our Google Shopping Ads service?
- Google Merchant Center setup or clean-up, including website verification and claiming
- Shipping and return policy settings
- Product feed review and optimisation
- Fixing disapproved products and account warnings
- Standard Shopping and Performance Max campaign setup
- Product grouping by brand, category, margin or top-selling items
- Negative keywords for Standard Shopping
- Purchase tracking with conversion values
If your store also needs Meta ads and social retargeting, our Ecommerce Advertising service brings those channels together. This page covers Google Shopping only.
Why is product feed optimisation so important?
Product feed optimisation is the single biggest lever in Shopping. A clear title that includes brand, product type and key details such as size or colour helps Google match the product to what people search.
| Feed attribute | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Title | The main signal Google uses to match searches. Front-load the most important words. |
| Description | Adds detail and context for matching |
| Image link | Clean product images on a plain background meet Google’s image rules and stand out |
| Price and availability | Must match your website, or products can be disapproved |
| GTIN, brand and MPN | Product identifiers help Google understand exactly what you sell |
| Google product category and product type | Help with organisation and campaign structure |
| Custom labels | Let us group products by margin, season or sales volume for bidding |
If the price or stock on your product page does not match the feed, Google can disapprove the item. We check your store setup so the data stays in sync.
Standard Shopping or Performance Max: which should you use?
Both campaign types use your Merchant Center feed, but they give you different levels of control. We choose based on your catalogue size, your conversion data and how much visibility you want into search terms.
| Standard Shopping | Performance Max | |
|---|---|---|
| Where ads show | Shopping results and the Shopping tab | Across Google channels, including Search, Shopping, Display, YouTube and Gmail |
| Control | Product groups, bids and negative keywords | Asset groups, audience signals and listing groups, with more automation |
| Good fit | Smaller catalogues or tight budgets that need close control | Stores with reliable purchase tracking and enough conversion data |
Some stores run both, with clear product splits so the campaigns do not compete. We set that structure up deliberately rather than relying on defaults.
How do we measure Shopping ad sales?
Shopping campaigns should be judged on revenue, not just clicks. We track purchases with the Google tag and pass the order value, so the account can report return on ad spend and use value-based bidding such as Target ROAS once there is enough data.
We also compare Google Ads data with Google Analytics 4 to check that numbers line up. If shoppers browse but do not buy, the problem may be on the product page, where our Conversion Rate Optimization work can help.

Frequently asked questions
How much do Google Shopping Ads cost?
Cost depends on how many products you advertise, how competitive your category is, your margins and your sales goals. Ad spend is paid to Google and is separate from our management fee. Feed work can take more time at the start for large catalogues. Request a free analysis and we will explain what drives cost for your store.
Do I need Google Merchant Center?
Yes. Shopping ads read product data from Google Merchant Center, so you need an account linked to Google Ads. If you already have one, we audit it. If not, we set it up with you, verify your website and connect your product feed.
Why are some of my products disapproved?
Common reasons include price or availability that does not match your website, missing identifiers such as GTIN, image problems, or policy issues like missing shipping or return information. Merchant Center shows the reason for each item. We fix the cause in the feed or on the site and request a review.
Can I run Shopping ads with Shopify or WooCommerce?
Yes. Both platforms can send products to Google Merchant Center through an app or plugin. We check that the integration sends complete, accurate data and that purchase tracking records the order value correctly.
How long until Shopping ads bring in sales?
It depends on your feed quality, prices, competition, budget and how well your product pages convert. Products need to be approved before they can show, and campaigns need time to gather data. We cannot promise a timeline, but we report on sales from the first week.
Who owns my Merchant Center and Google Ads accounts?
You do. Both accounts should be owned by your business. Vivid Marketing works with the access you grant, so your product data, campaign history and conversion data stay with you.
